Course Overview

This subject covers the operation and maintenance of common utilities found in industries.  Topics include boiler systems, high purity water, industrial chillers and cooling towers.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to:

  • Identify causes to performance issues in industrial utilities.
  • Handle performance problems related to deposition, corrosion and biofouling.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

  • Assignments – assess student’s understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, their ability to solve the application questions.
  • Tests / Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.
  • Class Participation – measure students’ attitudes and discipline towards learning in terms of completion of assignments and active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Environment and Water Technology.
