Course Overview

The subject provides an insight into the key functions relating to management of employees performed by line supervisors. Aspects of managing people including employee recruitment and selection, motivation, people development, performance management, employee counselling, conflict management, employee discipline & grievance handling and team building will be covered.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to:

  • Produce a Job Description & Job Specification for a job position.
  • Conduct an employee interview for recruitment & performance appraisal for a job position.
  • Prepare On-Job-Training (OJT) for a job position.
  • Conduct employee counselling.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

  • Describe the roles and key challenges as supervisors. 
  • Apply effective recruitment, selection and orientation.
  • Analyse the major theories of motivation, compensation and benefits
  • Apply the performance appraisal process
  • Apply training and development to enhance employee performance
  • Explain the appropriate strategies to manage conflicts effectively.
  • Describe disciplinary actions and employee grievance procedures effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct employee counselling with the use of effective counselling skills.
  • Describe the characteristics of effective teams to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Describe the requirements for effective management within the legal and industrial relations framework of Singapore.
