Course Overview

This course emphasizes the importance of measurement uncertainty in the reporting of data.  The requirements of the ISO 5725 and the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement will also be introduced and discussed.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to:

  • use of basic statistical tools for measurement uncertainty estimation;
  • perform measurement uncertainty estimation for chemical analysis.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

  • Assignments (Theory/Project/Practical) – assess student’s understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, their ability to solve the application questions and their ability to apply concepts to questions on in various topics.
  • Tests/Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.
  • Class participation – assess student’s attitudes towards learning in terms of active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Laboratory Management and Instrumentation
