Course Overview

This module covers different nutritional screening and assessment tools available specifically to identify malnourished in geriatric population. Early detection of high nutritional risk elderly is essential to mitigate the problem. Students will have hands-on experience in using various digital technologies that can be leveraged upon to improve the nutritional status of the elderly.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

This module includes lectures and practical sessions that will expose the students to various nutritional screening and assessment tools used specifically for elderly. Students will have opportunity to have a hands-on experience of assessing nutritional status using multiple components such as anthropometric measurements, biochemical parameters, clinical evaluation and dietary intake. These skills will be valuable in clinical and community setting.

 

 

Modes of Assessment

 

Coursework with no examinations. Assessments may consist of a range of components, such as tests, quizzes, assignments, participation, peer evaluation and other appropriate methods.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Nutrition for Ageing Well)
