Course Overview

This subject focuses on the fundamentals of nutrition and healthy ageing, the insights of the physiological changes in aging. It covers information about nutrition requirements to maintain optimal ageing and prevention of chronic diseases. Planning meals and evaluating dietary intakes based on nutrition principles, guidelines and standards are included. Students will learn and translate nutrition knowledge into personalised meal planning skills for older adults.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

This module relates nutritional needs of older adults to their physiological changes. Students will be equipped with hands-on skills to apply the meal planning principles in planning nutritionally adequate meals for elderly. This course will help students to understand the role of nutrition in preventing and managing geriatric conditions such frailty and sarcopenia.

 

 

Modes of Assessment

 

Coursework with no examinations. Assessments may consist of a range of components, such as tests, quizzes, assignments, participation, peer evaluation and other appropriate methods.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Nutrition for Ageing Well)
