Course Overview

This subject provides an overview of the fundamental practices in managing materials and how it impacts the supply chain of an organisation. The materials management function broadly encompasses both procurement as well as inventory control and proper management of these functions is necessary to ensure efficient material inflow into the organisation.

The subject also provides some industrial strategies and in procurement and as well as in the management of suppliers.

Objectives

The subject aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to:

• Apply purchasing principles and make purchasing decisions for products and services in an organisation and in the context of supply chain management.
• Plan, schedule and control to manage materials in minimising total inventory cost and fulfilling good customer service level.
• Effectively manage suppliers to ensure efficient material inflow into the organisation.
