Course Overview

The course discusses the principles and practices of sustainability with an emphasis on integrated design process for high-performance buildings. The design parameters of building systems and system integration for energy efficiency and healthy indoor environment quality is covered. This includes evaluation techniques to identify performance failures followed by documentation for corrective and preventive action in the life cycle of a building.





This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to:

  • State the principles and practices adopted in the conception of sustainable facilities;
  • Assess the design parameters of building systems impacting energy efficiency and healthy indoor environment quality.
  • Diagnose system integration issues that result in performance failures;
  • Construct performance-based documentation.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment


Continual Assessment 100 %





Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Energy Management and Sustainable Design.
