Course Overview

This 18-month programme will raise your competency to meet the industry demand for trained specialists in biomedical engineering, medical technology (MedTech) and healthcare services. You will acquire highly relevant skill-sets to perform maintenance and troubleshooting of biomedical equipment and devices, develop solutions for engineering problems related to biomedical engineering, execute Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) procedures in the manufacturing of medical devices, practice good healthcare operations management, ensure regulatory compliance within the industry and administer clinical trials.

Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who are within three years of either graduation OR the Operationally Ready Date (ORD) for National Servicemen from the following full-time programmes.


The Sign-on Incentive is only applicable for Singapore Citizens.

What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Engineering and Services, students are required to complete a total of 15 Credit Units or 3 Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMCs) curated from SUSS’s Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, as well as a project and 2 SBMCs from TP’s PDC in Medical Equipment. Students must complete the course within 18 months.

Upon successful completion of each SBMC at SUSS, participants will be awarded the Course Certificate by SUSS. 


Upon successful completion of the 2 TP’s SBMCs and Project, participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma Certificate in Medical Equipment.


The Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Engineering & Services will be awarded jointly by TP and SUSS to participants who have successfully completed the SBMCs at SUSS and the PDC at TP.

BME217e Healthcare Standards and Regulations

The module aims to provide students with a general understanding of a healthcare regulation as it exists in Singapore with relevant emphasis on regulation that pertains to biomedical engineering. There will also be a brief overview of relevant foreign examples such as FDA, CE etc. Students will also be given an introduction to international health standards and accreditation systems

BME219 Healthcare Administration

This module aims to provide students with a general understanding of the Singapore Healthcare system and how hospital is run locally and how the BME department functions within the context of a hospitals operations.

BME215e Clinical Trials

In this module, students will be introduced to the basic principles behind the design of clinical research trials to effectively test medical hypotheses. The critical components of a well designed clinical research protocol will be explored.  Students will be exposed to the different types of clinical trials used in the industrial, government and academic sectors for pharmaceutical, medical device, or biologic interventions.

ECMD201 Biomedical Instrumentation and Systems

The aim of this module is to teach students the principles, applications and design of the medical instruments commonly used in the health care industry.  Students will understand the design of an instrumentation system for diagnostic and therapeutic medical applications.

ECMD202 Biomedical Engineering Practices

The module aims to provide students with a general understanding of a wide range of biomedical devices such as cardiac devices, ophthalmological devices, auditory devices, and diagnostic tools.  Students will also learn about the medical informatics with application to the healthcare environment.  With a thorough understanding of the relevant principles, students should be able to manage and transform healthcare data into useful information and knowledge to improve patient care, as well as to design systems that use this information to support clinical decision-making.

ECPJ206 Project

This subject seeks to provide students with the knowledge and skills to integrate and apply relevant knowledge to a work-based problem or scenario while demonstrating appropriate project development skills, professional ethics and attitudes.  The deliverable may be a solution to a problem, process/product improvements, or the development, design, evaluation or implementation of ideas.

Career Opportunities

At the entry level, the job position is Engineering Assistant1. Upon completing the course under the Work-Study Post-Diploma Programme, graduates can look forward to role expansion in their work scope.

Selection of applicants is at the discretion of the participating companies and participating companies will contact their shortlisted applicants for interview. Applicants have the right to reject the interview if they do not wish to be employed by the company who contacted them.


Only applicants who are hired successfully and placed on this programme by the participating companies will be invited to submit an online application for the Work-Study Post-Diploma Courses.

The SUSS course fees are reviewed annually and may be revised. The University reserves the right to adjust the course fees without prior notice.

The course fees will be reviewed by MOE on an annual basis and adjusted accordingly.
