Course Overview

These are suites of e-learning courses that will provide on-demand structured learning at the convenience of the Learners’ pace, schedule and location. They therefore enable job seekers and also newly employed workers to acquire knowledge and quickly transit into the agri-food sector. For continual progression, the learner could subsequently take up the Part-time Diploma in Aquaculture.
 

The Foundation in Aquaculture Technology program consists of 3 suites of courses:

The suite consists of the following Micro-Learning Courses (MLC):

  1. The Aquatic Ecosystems
  2. Water Quality in Fish Care
  3. Essentials of Fish Health Care
  4. Fish Feeding Essentials

The suite consists of the following Micro-Learning Courses (MLC):
 

  1. Basic Fish Microbiology
  2. Introduction to Fish Diseases
  3. Infectious Fish Diseases 1
  4. Infectious Fish Diseases 2
  5. Non-infectious Diseases
  6. Diagnostic Techniques for fish diseases
  7. Fish Disease prevention and control
  8. Breeding Techniques and Broodstock Management

The suite consists of the following Micro-Learning Courses (MLC):
 

  1. Water Quality Management : Water Quality Monitoring
  2. Water Quality Management : Solid Waste Management
  3. Fluid flow, pumps and valves
  4. Flow meters and solid removal
  5. Biofiltration and Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS)
  6. New Technologies in Water Management
  7. Water Quality Tests
  8. Sustainable Aquaculture
  9. Aquaculture Concerns

Participants who are keen to learn more about aquaculture and may take on job roles within the aquaculture industry.

What You'll Learn

Upon completing these courses, you will be able to:
 

  1. Understand the fundamentals of aquaculture, from ecosystems, husbandry to disease diagnosis and control, water and waste management.
  2. Describe the knowledge and skills required to work in an aquaculture farm
  3. Describe sustainable farm management and the regulations and guidelines in food safety and farm practices.
  4. Transit into a career in aquaculture

 

Accreditation Benefits

 

Students who have successfully completed the “Foundation in Aquaculture Technology”, and wish to enrol into the Diploma in Applied Science (Aquaculture), can apply for subject exemption of one subject “Water Quality Management” in the Certificate in Aquatic Systems and Mechanics.

 

 

Mode of Assessment

 

  • Multiple Choice Questions – measure participants’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.

Participants will receive a special Certificate of Completion of Foundation in Aquaculture Technology upon completion of the entire suite.  Participants are to email all the individual MLC e-Certificates (under this suite) to tsa@tp.edu.sg as evidence of their completion.
