Course Overview

The Specialist Diploma in Medical Technology and Informatics will raise your competency to meet the digital transformation of the Industry and to meet the demands for trained specialists in Medical Technology (MedTech), Biomedical and Healthcare sectors. You will acquire highly relevant skill-sets to perform maintenance and troubleshooting of biomedical equipment and devices, using data analytics to develop solutions for problems related to medical technology and biomedical engineering and using operational technology security software, IoT & network to mitigate cybersecurity issues for manufacturing of medical devices and healthcare operations management within the industry.

 

This course is relevant for adult learners looking to upgrade their skills and knowledge in Medical Technology Informatics, Data Analytics and Cybersecurity. The knowledge and skills gained through this course would enable individuals to expand their job scope and take on new roles or tasks at their workplace, particularly in the medical technology, biomedical industry and healthcare sectors.

 

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding in the concepts and technologies involved in data analytics and data lifecycle, gathering, cleaning, processing and visualising data.
  • Apply data analysis methods, descriptive and predictive analytics as well as machine learning applications.
  • Apply operational technology security software, IoT & network to mitigate cybersecurity issues in the workplace.
  • Assess and troubleshoot Biomedical Instrumentation and Systems
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the advanced technologies used in Medical Devices

Entry Requirements

Applicants should possess at least a Polytechnic Diploma, or an ITE Technical Diploma/Technical Engineer Diploma/Work-Learn Technical Diploma or equivalent.

 

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma, participants are required to complete a total of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each PDC.

 

 

Post Diploma Certificate in Smart Technology

 

This certificate provides knowledge and skills in the data analytics  and operational technology security which  includes gathering, cleaning, processing, visualising data, data analysis methods, descriptive   and predictive analytics, machine learning applications and cybersecurity risks, mitigation methods and various OT cybersecurity standards are covered to meet the industry needs and for governance and compliances.

CII1C01 Data Analytics Essentials

This subject covers an overview of analytics and data lifecycle, including gathering, cleaning, processing and visualising data. Exploratory data analysis methods, descriptive and predictive analytics as well as machine learning applications of industrial / engineering data will also be covered.

CII1C02 Operational Technology (OT) Security

This subject covers the Operational Technology (OT) hardware, software, IoT & network cybersecurity issues and resolutions. Cybersecurity risks, mitigation methods and various OT cybersecurity standards are covered to meet the industry needs and for governance and compliances. 

Post Diploma Certificate in Biomedical Equipment

 

This certificate provides knowledge and skills in the Biomedical Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering, which includes the principles, applications and design of the medical instruments, medical devices, equipment and medical informatics to the healthcare environment.

ECMD201 Biomedical Instrumentation and Systems

The aim of this module is to teach students the principles, applications and design of the medical instruments commonly used in the health care industry.  Students will understand the design of an instrumentation system for diagnostic and therapeutic medical applications.

ECMD202 Biomedical Engineering Practices

The module aims to provide students with a general understanding of a wide range of biomedical devices such as cardiac devices, ophthalmological devices, auditory devices, and diagnostic tools.  Students will also learn about the medical informatics with application to the healthcare environment.  With a thorough understanding of the relevant principles, students should be able to manage and transform healthcare data into useful information and knowledge to improve patient care, as well as to design systems that use this information to support clinical decision-making.

Course fees payable is based on per Post-Diploma Certificate.

Course fees will be reviewed by MOE on an annual basis and adjusted accordingly.

MOE subsidy will not be applicable for students who repeat a module or semester.
