Course Overview

This course introduces the use of object identification systems, particularly Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which is an integral part of a smart factory in advanced manufacturing that enables decentralised control of the production processes. With digital technologies driving the rapid adoption of advanced manufacturing systems, the need for batch sizing or high volume customised production at the cost of mass production, is increasing. This requires a high degree of production flexibility and adaptability which is achievable with the use of object identification systems, including RFID.



Course Objective


Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:


1.     Describe the benefits of using object identification systems in manufacturing

2.     Describe how object identification and tracking is crucial in enabling smart factories and decentralised control of production processes

3.     Apply object identification technology in a manufacturing environment

What You'll Learn

To learn the fundamentals of RFID technology and its benefits and applying it in manufacturing to enhance the flexibility in production configuration.


  • Fundamentals of object identification system
  • Selection of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system
  • Getting familiar with reading and writing of RFID tag and the data format
  • Identify the benefits of using RFID in production Applying RFID in manufacturing processes

Participants will experience practical hands-on sessions with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and RFID tag reading and writing.





There will be an assessment at the end of the course and participants will be awarded with a Certificate of Performance upon attempting the assessment and upon meeting 75% of the required course attendance.
