Course Overview

Virtual manufacturing (VM) is the use of computer models to define, simulate and visualise the critical operations and equipment in a factory. With virtual manufacturing models, engineers could cost-effectively simulate and evaluate the virtual products, new fabrication processes and controls before setting up the production line physically. In this course, participants will be introduced to the main technologies used in VM namely computer-aided design (CAD), 3D modelling and simulation software, product lifecycle management (PLM), virtual reality, high-speed networking and rapid prototyping. Via a digital twin industry use case deployed at the smart factory within Temasek Polytechnic Advanced Manufacturing Centre, the participants will learn to evaluate the interaction between design and automation right from the design phase for both serial and parallel processes.

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Mr Tan Eng Heng

Mr Tan Eng Heng is a Lecturer with Diploma in Mechatronics. He is currently a core member of the team tasked to set up Temasek Polytechnic Advanced Manufacturing Centre(TP AMC). His areas of specialization are high speed machine design, virtual manufacturing and automated material handling system in the automation industry. In robotics, he has been coaching staff and students in programming and application of ABB robots and collaborative robot (YuMi).

Ms Oei Poh Hoon

Ms Oei Poh Hoon has more than 10 years of coaching experiences as a facilitator for full time diploma courses. She is also the lead facilitator for customized industrial courses in the area of 3D modelling as well as Virtual Reality(VR) and Augmented Reality(AR) technologies. She is also actively involved in industrial projects on immersive media technology at Enabling Technology Collaboratory(ETC).
