TP’s Diploma in Chemical Engineering has a strong emphasis on Chemistry. About 30% of our core subjects are related to Chemistry! The course trains you to run various chemical and physical processes that make all the products that you use in your daily life, including paints, lubricants, drugs, detergents, etc. Moreover, the course equips you with hands-on skills to work in a laboratory so that you can carve out a career in research, or in testing or quality assurance.

Strong Emphasis on Chemistry
The Diploma in Chemical Engineering is one of the courses in TP with the strongest emphasis on Chemistry. Therefore, this is the course for you if you like Chemistry.
Wide Range of Specialisations
You have the flexibility to select a specialisation or Elective Cluster when you are in your final year of study. Currently, we offer the following Elective Clusters:
No. A basic knowledge in GCE O level Combined Science will suffice. This diploma will build upon this knowledge by providing 6 modules of Chemistry subjects to establish a strong foundation. Furthermore the course also involves the use of problem-solving skills and the application of systematic and logical reasoning.
Additional Mathematics is not a requirement. In fact, close to half of our students come in without Additional Mathematics background. Many of these students can still do well.
There are no colour deficiency restrictions for the Diploma in Chemical Engineering. Partial colour deficiency or total colour deficiency is acceptable.

- G. Dulmini Namalika De Silva, student
In the third year, students will do an internship related to their choice of Elective Cluster, i.e. Applied Chemistry, Chemical Processing or Pharmaceutical and Biologics Technology. The internship will be completed concurrently with their Major Project on real-life industry projects and can take place locally or overseas.
"The SIP program has allowed me to gain invaluable experience, and also put into practice what I have learnt in the course."
- Joey Boh, student
Unique to the Chemical Engineering course at Temasek Polytechnic is the strong emphasis on Chemistry. Moreover, with a strong foundation in Chemistry, students can also participate in a whole array of research projects through our Differential Research Programme (DRP). Research areas include analytical chemistry, Traditional Chinese Medicine, novel cancer treatment methods, innovative water treatment development, etc.
