Crowbar Awards 2015: Repurposing Creativity

“The fascinating aspect is that the more you delve into the giant umbrella term that is "design,” the more the lines begin to blur and you'll begin to realise design encompasses every aspect of life,” states Lim Xin Yu, TP’s Visual Communication graduate.

Xin Yu, TP’s Visual Communication graduate who clinched the GOLD award and the “Best of Design” Category at the recent Crowbar Awards 2015 crafted an editorial publication which explored the relationship between “repurposing” and “creativity”. The idea was actually sparked from something simple and unexpected: placing a book under a table leg to stop it from wobbling. With that, Xin Yu explored the many possibilities of everyday repurposing that helped her win the award.

Xin Yu now looks forward to opportunities to explore other aspects of design and culture outside of Singapore and work with creative people. Her time at TP has been fruitful and here’s her advice for our current students:

“Many of the things you wish to do are a lot more possible than you think; you just have to get there.”

Like her, many design students have had the opportunity to dip their toes in a variety of topics and learn about various industries.

Organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents (4As), the Crowbar Awards is an annual platform for emerging young creatives to showcase their artistic talents and learn from their peers. There are six categories for entries: advertising, design, photography, interactive, film, and the Crowbar Challenge.

Today, the Crowbar Awards has grown from a local one-day event to a week-long festival which consists of an Advertising Challenge, Winners’ Workshop and an Awards Show night, attracting over 1,000 entries from both local and overseas schools.

Our students in TP have done very well in this year’s Crowbar event. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our TEMASEK winners in the Crowbar Awards 2015!
