This 3-year full time international business diploma, the only one of its kind in Asia, will equip you with a broad range of specialised skills and knowledge to meet the various needs and challenges across aviation industry; from managing world class airports, and airlines to operating the next generation passenger aircrafts and “spaceports” that will send passengers beyond the stars. Aspiring pilots can also learn to fly an aircraft as part of the course.

This Diploma was launched in 2007 in response to the industry’s demand for more highly trained aviation professionals and to provide the expertise required for Singapore to maintain its status as the premium aviation hub in the Asia Pacific
For Singapore to remain at the forefront of the aviation industry, there must a steady stream of new bright, young and specially trained professionals to continue Singapore’s proud aviation heritage and take it to the next level of excellence.
This diploma teaches you essential international business skills designed around the recognised competencies required by the aviation industry. It provides you with a holistic approach to real life management of aviation facilities, systems and human resources, including ticketing and marketing of airports and airlines. However, there are some engineering elements, the knowledge of which is also needed in the operation of aviation facilities such as luggage and cargo handling conveyer systems and aerobridges.
Most definitely! Aviation is an international business that spans six continents, and works across all cultures and national boundaries. Therefore, the skills you acquire in this course can be easily transported and applied globally. By 2017, total passenger numbers are expected to rise to 3.91 billion – an increase of 930 million passengers over the 2.98 billion carried in 2012 [Source: International Air Transport Association]. With the anticipated exponential growth of the aviation industry in Singapore and across the region there will be ample jobs available in this industry.
The international business and aviation training you receive in this course, while having an aviation focus, is highly transferable to jobs in many other business and engineering related industries such as events management, sales & marketing, customer service, hospitality & tourism, and facility management, just to name a few.
Hence, you can easily branch out into other sectors, whether for further studies or to get a job. The versatile training you have received from your diploma will make you highly employable.
You can also apply through the Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE) held together with the JAE in January each year. This JPSAE is open to all students who have a strong interest in, and aptitude for, this diploma, but whose “O” level Last Aggregate Score (formerly the cut-off-point, COP) does not meet the requirement. However, in anticipation of the high demand for this course, you need to place this course (AMS, code: T04) as your first choice under JAE in order to be shortlisted under JPSAE.
You can also apply through the annual Direct Poly Admission (DPA) exercise, held in July & August each year. Admission will be based on your mid year exams and school academic assessment, as well as your aptitude and attitude.
For both the JPSAE and DPA routes, you will be required to attend an interview.
If you are short-sighted, your prescriptive lens should not be more than 500 degrees per eye, correctable to 6/6 and you must not be colour blind. Height requirement varies between organisations. (For the Republic of Singapore Air Force, the height requirement is between 165cm to 190cm, and applicants would also be required to pass medical and aptitude tests.)
On the surface, both diplomas sound alike, but there are essential differences.
Temasek Polytechnic is the pioneer of such an aviation diploma. Launched in 2007, our AMS course is more established. Our curriculum has been developed after careful analysis of the needs of the industry and the requirements of potential employers. In addition, we have fine-tuned our syllabus over the years, so as to make sure that what you learn will be relevant to your further studies or future jobs. We have the benefit of hindsight and experience.
With a strong history and solid foundation, our diploma is more established, more reputable, and enjoys wider recognition among employers. We have also built up strong industry links over the years, with numerous renowned companies and institutions (See under “Projects” for a list of some of our industry partners), so that our students can benefit from meaningful internships at these aviation-related companies.
We have also built up one of the best aviation facilities on campus, so as to give you an authentic learning experience. For example, we have a brand new training facility in our just completed “West Wing” block. It includes an industry sized aircraft hanger, supported by 3 actual aircraft complete with all their accessories, as well as 2 full-motion flight simulators used to train pilots. All these, so that students like you can learn with real props, real equipment, and real experiences.
Most significantly, our AMS diploma comes with a flying programme, whereby you can take up flying lessons at the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) during your 3-year diploma course, and get your Private Pilot Licence (PPL). This is something that no other Poly offers. Taking up such flying lessons on your own will set you back by about S$36,000, whereas you will be able to do it in TP for just a small admin / registration fee.
Secondly, you will have the opportunity to do your internship as cabin crew on board Tigerair and Scoot airlines lights in the region, and learn about customer service as well as airline operations – first hand, literally. Again, this arrangement is unique and only offered by our AMS diploma.
