Project Background & Description
The Tampines Residents' Network (RN) was selected to participate in the 2023 Love Our Hood Initiative (LOHI) – Neighborhood Noise Series, organized by the Municipal Services Office (MSO). This initiative focused on addressing noise-related concerns in local communities, aiming to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Our project is specifically targeted at Tampines Play@West, a popular park located within the Tampines Terrace precinct, directly opposite Temasek Polytechnic. The goal was to develop innovative solutions that mitigate noise disturbances in this area, ensuring a more peaceful and pleasant environment for the neighborhood.
To achieve this, an IoT (Internet of Things) device was developed to monitor the noise levels at the playground, basketball court, and park areas. When noise levels exceed a certain threshold, the device triggers alerts to the volunteers of Tampines Residents' Network, who can then monitor the situation and, if necessary, dispatch someone to the location to advise the residents to lower their volume. A message is also be shown on the display screen of the device to remind residents to lower the noise level.
