Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMCs)

This year's graduating students can choose from a curated list of Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMCs) offered as part of TP's suite of Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes. These courses are stackable towards a Specialist Diploma course. Designed to equip you with essential core and emerging skills needed to excel in the modern workforce.

SBMCs courses:

This subject covers the knowledge and skills involved in sentiment analysis and text analytics. The application of text mining techniques to unstructured data, obtained from social media platforms or other channels, for the discovery of trends and sentiments which can be used to develop actionable insights for better business decision making will also be covered.

The subject covers topics such as banking industry structure, retail and private banking, commercial and investment banking, and Fintech business models and technologies.

This subject introduces students to cloud computing concepts and the fundamental concepts of machine learning. Students will learn the security and architecture of cloud platforms, and a range of model-based and algorithmic machine learning methods, including regression and classification.

This subject introduces the basic elements of IT security, and aims to familiarise students with the various IT security policies, processes and procedures, as well as best practices in the industry and government. Students will learn about the associated standards for risk management, and how to plan, execute, report and follow up on an information security management system audit.

This subject introduces the concepts and processes of design thinking, eliciting and analysing business requirements from key stakeholders. It enables students to conduct an exhaustive and purposeful needs analysis to understand and examine requirements and their underlying drivers for a proposed IT application.

This immersive subject is designed to provide learners with hands-on experience in leveraging generative artificial intelligence techniques. Students will learn to train Large Language Models (LLMs) using custom data, cultivating a deeper understanding of their structure and parameters. They will gain practical skills in deploying image generation services on the cloud using existing models such as Stable Diffusion. Additionally, the course will cover prompt engineering and help learners understand prompt structures to optimise generative outputs. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to create and deploy their own custom generative AI models in a cloud environment, expanding their creative possibilities.

This subject focuses on providing insights into the use of digital media as a marketing platform in consumer engagement and to achieve marketing objectives. Apart from social media marketing, participants will be introduced to technology available in Customer Relationship Management (CRM), as well as digital tools used in tourism to create exceptional customer experiences.

This subject covers the knowledge and skills involved in applying a systems approach to integrate and restore natural ecosystems within the built environment. It also explores sustainable design and operational strategies for green buildings in alignment with prevailing Green Mark criteria. The subject further includes the evaluation of waste reduction strategies through recycling, reuse, recovery, and life cycle analysis, alongside an understanding of the properties and performance of alternative, eco-friendly building materials to support sustainable development.

This subject introduces techniques in which to identify consumer trends for creative ideation. It also includes analytical and rational implementation of strategies, as well as best practices for marketing to engage consumers effectively. It covers the various approaches towards measuring of success in an advertising communication.

This module introduces students to the practice of behavioural insights. Students will be taught relevant areas in psychological research that can be applied in nudging behaviours, particularly in the areas of judgment & decision making, social influences & compliance, and persuasion. Students will also be taught how to systematically apply the theoretical psychological knowledge to identify appropriate intervention and implementation options that can be used to nudge or influence behaviours in wide ranging domain areas such as social, health, education, sustainability or consumer behaviours.

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills of robot internal structure, controller, as well as troubleshooting the various modules, parts and circuits of industrial robot. Topics covered includes robot safety requirements, classification of different industrial robots, workspace and integration, troubleshooting of robot parts & circuits which includes controller system, motion controller, motors, encoders, sensors and the related actuators, programming of robot controller system and communication/fieldbus, implementation of kinematics, motion planning, trajectory generation, plan and developing routes for mobile robot. It also includes robot performance monitoring, maintenance, repair and calibration.

The 5S originated from Japanese shop floor management principles, which bring structure to daily work process to keep our work environment in a neat and tidy manner. The 7W covers the common wastes seen in many business processes. Together, these 5S & 7W formed powerful operational tools, leading to a lean and effective business. Moving from workplace to personal habit, these tools will enhance an individual's effectiveness in life; leading to a more productive individual. This micro-learning online course will provide you with the knowledge and application skills needed to apply 5S and 7W to their work and life.

Aesthetics for online stores are of utmost importance as customers' interaction with the business is via the internet and very visual in nature. The visuals establishes the positioning for the brand and sets the tone and manner for the communication with the customer. This 4-hr micro-learning online course will give you an understanding of the aesthetics of an online store that will largely determine whether the customer experience is a positive one.

This micro-learning online course aims to provide an introduction to sustainable urban farming technology to equip learners with basic knowledge and concepts behind the production of plants and crops for food. Learners will learn about the types of growing media and DIY Hydroponics System, management of plant growth, nutrition and disease control.
