Post Date: 12 Feb 2018
The Temasek Polytechnic Men’s Swimming Team won the prestigious Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Swimming Championship 2018 on Sunday, besting a field of 11 other teams from the universities and polytechnics. The Men’s team also took home the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Swimming Championship title in November 2017.
Leading the charge was our Sports Excellence (SPEX) scholar and School of Applied Science student Darren Chua, who held off strong competition from the university swimmers, to win gold in the 50m Butterfly in a new IVP record. Darren also earned a standing ovation from the audience for this remarkable feat!
Darren followed by clinching the gold medal in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle events. Darren was also part of the TP Men’s relay teams that won 2 Golds (4x100m Freestyle Relay & 4x100 Medley Relay), 1 Silver (4x50m Medley Relay) and 1 Bronze (4x50m Freestyle Relay).
The swimming team’s Vice-Captain, Ian Michael, is also a student in the School of Applied Science (Diploma in Biotechnology).
