Move over Met Gala, there’s a new fashion ball in town! From 9 – 11January, Temasek Polytechnic’s Open House 2020 saw students and visitors alike come out to play. Here are some of the event’s most iconic looks, reviewed for your pleasure.
Local rapper Shigga Shay swung by our Plaza to perform on Thursday, much to everyone’s delight. His monochromatic outfit with coloured accents and metallic accessories were all class with a healthy dose of fun, perfect for performing hits like ‘Paiseh’ and ‘Tapau’.
It wouldn’t be a fashion review if we didn’t include the School of Design. Models took to the runway in Avant-garde pieces conceptualised and executed by our very own students from the Diploma in Apparel Design & Merchandising. Truly an impressive runway that could give Vivienne Westwood a run for her money. 10s, 10s, 10s across the board!
Our friendly neighbourhood facilitators went all out for OH, pairing our TP-Tees with Open House exclusive travel-themed patches. A mainstay of any TP event, the black sling bag, also made an appearance. Adorned with army tags, corded rope bracelets and other personal touches, every bag was uniquely styled. Helpful and fashionable - What a great combination!
From the School of Engineering to Informatics & IT, everyone was sporting chunky VR goggles this season. (We hear it’s all the rage in Paris.) Whether it was fishing underwater, a crisis simulation, or hurling fireballs at enemies, students got to immerse themselves in simulated experiences while making a bold statement in the eyewear department.
These custom designed canvas totes were an essential at this year’s Open House. Visitors had six animal-themed designs to choose from, each boasting different qualities they could identify with. Versatile and durable, the totes added a pop of colour to everyone’s outfits, while keeping their freebies safe.
People say nothing looks better than a person in uniform and we couldn’t agree more! These students were spotted around campus dressed like true professionals while demonstrating the practical side of their coursework. Looking sharp, guys!
Sometimes the best accessory is a fluffy friend. Students from the Diploma in Veterinary Technology strutted their stuff with dogs in tow, educating visitors during daily pet-care workshops. The loyal pups themselves sported some adorable looks, one Spitz in particular opting for a charming onigiri-patterned bandana, not something every pup can pull off.
TP’s Dance Ensemble (TPDE), one of our 100+ CCAs, took to the main stage serving face and incredible performances, proving good choreography in matching outfits will always reign supreme. Each group gave the audience different and dynamic routines, seamlessly transitioning from one number to the next. Amazing work TPDE!
Hot off the heels of 2019, the fur and animal print trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. Students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences draped themselves in fur (faux of course) for photo opportunities with the visiting crowd. Glad to see they’re compassionate and can also accessorise to boot.
We couldn’t possibly capture everyone who walked our grounds during OH, but here’s a collection of the colourful people we managed to meet; you all look great!
Missed out on the three-day fashion extravaganza? Not to worry! Visit our campus and peek at the many opportunities we have to offer. Better yet, enrol to get a front row seat to the action!
