Six senior students from the Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT embarked on an Overseas Student Internship Programme (OSIP) to Japan, where they were attached to the National Institute of Technology, Akashi College, from 25 September to 15 December 2017. The group comprised students from the Diploma in Financial Business Informatics (FBI) and the Diploma in Business Intelligence & Analytics (BIA).

Koko Than Win@ Nyan Lim Htet, Tan Hui Ying, and Kenneth Lim Bo Wen from FBI, as well as Karista Khoo Poh Yin, Seah Kian Hua, and Yong Xin Yi from BIA, were attached to various departments such as the departments of Architecture, Environmental Architecture, and Mechanical Engineering. The attachment allowed them to pick up new skills, be exposed to new technologies, and gain new knowledge beyond the curriculum. For instance, the students were involved in different projects which saw them creating electronic instruction manuals, developing websites and portals, and modelling a 3-dimensional trophy which was even featured on the local news. Through this experience, they gained expertise in software like AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Laser Cutter, as well as new programming languages such as C and CUDA C.

Not only did they pick up new skills, they also experienced a new culture, and cited that the most memorable experience in Akashi College was when they attended classes with Japanese students and learnt more about the Japanese culture.

The students found this attachment enriching and agreed that this internship had allowed them to learn many life skills such as being independent and communicating effectively.
