Bridging Skills Gaps & Building Manpower for Advanced Manufacturing in Singapore

Temasek Polytechnic Moves to Upskill Industry for i4.0

As Singapore’s manufacturing sector moves into Industry 4.0 with digitalisation and automation of its processes, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) is collaborating with key industry partners to train companies and their employees with the right skills and technological know-how in their transformation journey. Using SIRI, or the Singapore Smart Industry Readiness Index, we offer a systematic approach to assess manufacturing companies which enables them to start, scale and sustain their transformation initiatives. Through this approach, we are able to focus on providing the necessary skillsets and know-how to help companies transform in areas such as automation, connectivity and the sensitising of equipment for added intelligence.

Making our debut with a virtual booth at Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC (ITAP) 2020 which will be held from 20 to 22 October, TP and our partners, OMRON and Swisslog, will showcase our capabilities in advanced manufacturing, especially in the areas of consultancy and training. Together, we will also host a webinar themed: “Advanced Manufacturing Connectivity: System Integration as Core Skill”, which starts at 2pm on 21 October 2020. Building Manpower for i4.0

OMRON, with the support from TP and SSG, is offering a six-month SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme (SGUP) OMRON Robotic System Integration Programme which trains mid-career individuals with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skillsets in advanced automation, to take on robotics and automation specialised roles in advanced manufacturing.

In addition, TP also offers a comprehensive suite of courses for adult learners in the core areas of advanced manufacturing – intelligent automation and machine control; connectivity and industrial IoT; robotic system integration; virtual manufacturing and digital twin; as well as manufacturing analytics and cybersecurity. Explore the full series of short courses here.

Part-time courses for those interested to upgrade their skills qualification to the diploma or specialist diploma levels are also available.

Our full-time students from the Schools of Business, Informatics & IT and Engineering, can also look forward to multi-disciplinary learning as they take up electives relating to advanced manufacturing in their third year.

First Live Smart Factory on Campus

To be completed in early 2021, TP will be the only educational institution in Singapore to house a live smart factory on its campus. The TP Advanced Manufacturing Centre (TP AMC) is an applied and skills-based training centre for experiential learning and consultancy. Empowered by Artificial Intelligence and digitally driven, this learning enterprise will equip learners with emerging skills needed across major job roles in advanced manufacturing. It will form part of the robust advanced manufacturing eco-system comprising cutting-edge facilities, equipment, partners and expertise that TP has developed.

TP AMC will also feature an Intralogistics Automation System (IAS) by Swisslog. The IAS will be used to train future logisticians in the areas of Smart Warehouse Operations and provide opportunities for Engineering and IT students for multidisciplinary learning.

Look out for more details on this upcoming Centre soon!
