Temasek Polytechnic and Volt Auto Launch EV Academy to Develop Singapore’s Next-Generation Electric Mobility Workforce
Post Date: 31 Jul 2026
SINGAPORE, 31 July – As Singapore accelerates its transition towards electric mobility, building a workforce with the specialised skills to support the adoption, servicing and maintenance of electric vehicles has become increasingly important. To address this need, Volt Auto, the exclusive distributor of Dongfeng Singapore passenger vehicles, and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the Temasek Polytechnic-Volt Auto EV Academy, a new industry-academia partnership that will equip students and working professionals with practical, industry-relevant electric vehicle (EV) skills.
Building on Temasek Polytechnic's ongoing efforts in EV education and workforce development, the Academy combines Volt Auto's strong industry knowledge with TP’s applied learning expertise to strengthen Singapore's pipeline of EV-ready talent while supporting workforce transformation and innovation across the electric mobility sector.
The partnership demonstrates Volt Auto’s commitment to nurturing Singapore's EV talent ecosystem while advancing technological capabilities and the industry's future-readiness. As part of the partnership, Volt Auto will contribute a Dongfeng VIGO electric SUV and its proprietary EV diagnostic kits for use as training equipment within the Academy, giving students hands-on experience with current-generation EV technologies used in industry.
The Academy will also create pathways for students to gain practical industry exposure through structured On-the-Job Training (OJT), job shadowing, and internship opportunities across Volt Auto's partner network. Beyond traditional mechanic upskilling, the Academy will prepare students for emerging career pathways such as EV Consultants, Pre-Delivery Inspectors, EV Detailing Specialists, and Accident Service Advisors.
Mr Soh Ming, Founder and CEO of Volt Auto, said, "As the exclusive distributor of Dongfeng passenger vehicles in Singapore and Malaysia, we have observed how quickly the EV industry is growing across Singapore and Malaysia, and we believe the biggest bottleneck at this stage is talent. Partnering Temasek Polytechnic allows us to invest directly in building that talent pipeline, from hands-on technical training to specialised roles across our regional network. This is about training more mechanics while also strengthening the entire ecosystem at one go.”
“The growth of electric mobility is creating exciting opportunities for our students and workforce. Meeting these evolving needs calls for close industry-academia collaboration to translate emerging EV developments into relevant, hands-on training. Through our meaningful partnership with Volt Auto, we can bring industry-relevant EV technologies and real-world learning into the classroom, equipping learners with the skills, confidence and experience for emerging careers in the EV sector. This reflects Temasek Polytechnic’s commitment to applied learning and developing future-ready talent for Singapore and the region’s transition to electric mobility,” added Mr Paul Yap, Director, School of Engineering, Temasek Polytechnic.
Training at the Temasek Polytechnic-Volt Auto EV Academy is expected to begin in October Semester 2026, with a curriculum designed to keep pace with industry developments and benefitboth full-time diploma students and adult learners. Co-delivered by certified trainers, the programme will offer a more immersive, hands-on learning experience that equips learners with practical skills relevant to the evolving EV sector.
