Malay youth fall in love with Chinese music Self-taught to fulfil childhood dream

Iman, a Malay student, was 12 years old when he first chanced upon a performance by the Taiwan Chinese Orchestra. The melodious sound of the orchestra left a deep impression on him; however, it was not until his fourth year of secondary school that he could afford a musical instrument. Through online videos, Iman taught himself to play the erhu, suona, and dizi and is now a member of the Temasek Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (TP CO).
