Module Overview


Ever dreamt of interviewing your favourite celebrity? Or imagined yourself as a media producer? 

 

You will be introduced to the fundamentals of journalism, such as the elements of newsworthy stories and interviewing skills. You will also learn fundamental script writing and media production skills, which you can apply through the production of audio capsules. Basic photography techniques will be covered for you to try on your mobile devices.

 

Through this ApLM, you will also be able to improve your writing skills, critical thinking skills and oral presentation skills. 

 

The content has been designed to suit the skills levels of secondary school students with no prior experience in journalism, photography and media production. The content is in line with the competencies identified in the SkillsFuture Framework for Media.

 

This module will be conducted within a duration of 22.5 hours.

 

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  1. Demonstrate interviewing skills
  2. Produce effective photos through applying mobile photography techniques
  3. Write effective photo captions which fulfil 5 Ws and 1H
  4. Demonstrate script writing techniques
  5. Produce audio capsules by applying script writing techniques and production skills

 

Assessment Components

Students will be assessed based on the following:

 

  1. Class Participation
  2. Reflection Journal
  3. Mobile Photography Assignment
  4. Media Production Project

 

Completion criteria

Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
