Module Overview

This ApLM aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to create smart devices such as Wearables and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and to develop mobile application that can monitor and control these devices. Students will also get to appreciate the role of Virtual Reality (VR) in IoT applications by preparing a 3D environment for viewing on VR viewer. Students are introduced to the basic concepts through laboratory activities. Students also have chance to work on the mini project to deepen their skills. 


This module will be conducted within a duration of 22.5 hours.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:


  1. Create smart devices using an embedded platform
  2. Develop mobile applications to wirelessly control smart devices on the embedded platform
  3. Create a 3D environment using 3D assets in a game engine
  4. Deploy a 3D environment to the Virtual Reality (VR) viewer


Assessment Components
Students will be assessed based on the following:


  1. Class Participation
  2. Labwork 1
  3. Labwork 2
  4. Mini-Project
  5. Quiz


Completion Criteria
Students are required to:


  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
