Course Overview
In collaboration with Open Learning, this Fundamentals of Cybersecurity and Applications course will take you on an adventure, to explore the history and innovations in cybersecurity and information security since the beginning of the 20th Century.
You will learn:
- How to maintain the security of documents. Explore operation security and the different levels of access to documents – from top secret, classified information through to information that is readily accessible to the public.
- Develop an understanding of both physical and online security requirements. Examine the processes of identification, authorisation and access of individual users to specific information.
- Concepts related to cryptography and gain skills and understanding of the actions associated with responding to cyber attack through malware.

- Gain an understanding of the basic concepts of IT cybersecurity.
- Become familiar with what is required to keep a computer system, applications and environment running in a secure and protected manner.
- Understand the requirements associated with the physical security of a computer system.
- Develop skills in processes associated with the IAAA of computer security.
- Become familiar with various encryption and decryption processes involved in computer system security.
- Understand the various forms of malware and become familiar with defences against malware.
