Course Overview

This online course aims to provide learners with a good understanding of the overall knowledge to design, develop and implement sustainability in supply chain management and operations. The course aims to

 

  1. Review the economic and ecological views of people and planet, and understand the state of the environment and our world.
  2. Describe the pressing global problems, review the history of sustainable development, and understand the concepts of Weak and Strong Sustainability.
  3. Review business and sustainability, understand the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Pyramid, dimensions of CSR and be aware of Corporate Social Irresponsibility (CSI).
  4. Gain knowledge on Cleaner Production, understand Eco-effectiveness and Eco-efficiency in the business context, and are able to differentiate between cradle-to-grave and cradle-to- cradle principles.
  5. Understand understand the Nature and Implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), appreciate the obstacles for businesses concerning the uptake of ISO certification. Review the benefits and drawbacks of recognised certification schemes, and understand the Potential and Limitation of ISO 14001.
  6. Understand the rise of corporate reporting initiatives, understand the nature of sustainability reporting, as well as reporting standards and frameworks. Articulate the value and effectiveness of sustainability reporting.
  7. Gain an understanding of the challenges of policy-making for sustainability, the complexities of engaging with stakeholders, and the significance of business-stakeholders nexus for sustainability.
  8. Be aware of Socially Responsible investment (SRI) - the ethical investment - study the ethicality of SRI, and examine the links between sustainable consumption and sustainable development. Articulate the local and global impact of over-consumption and the need for change.

 

This online course is to be completed within 1 month from the date of successful course activation.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have at least GCE ‘A’ level certificate and two years of working experience in the logistics and supply chain industry. 

 

Those who do not meet the minimum educational requirements but have relevant working experience may be considered for entry to the Professional Certificate programme on a case-by-case basis. Similarly those who have higher educational qualifications but do not have relevant working experience in the sector may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What You'll Learn

This is a 100% e-learning , self-paced and self-directed course that runs on a PC/Laptop's web browser.

 

At the end of this course, you will learn the following topics:

 

  1. Understand the interdependencies that exist between the economy, society and nature and its current baseline.
  2. Understand the sustainable development theory.
  3. Apply sustainable development theory to the business context.
  4. Describe the breakthroughs in cleaner production and sustainable handling of waste.
  5. Understand Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for sustainability.
  6. Understand the reporting structures for sustainability.
  7. Examine the roles of government and non-government organisations (NGOs) in sustainability.
  8. Examine the role of consumers in sustainability.

 

Overall, learners are equipped with the knowledge to design, develop and implement Sustainability in supply chain management and operations.

 

 

Assessment

 

The online quiz consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Unlimited attempts for the online quiz are allowed for participants to reinforce their understanding and achieve the desired learning outcomes.

 

On completing the online course and quiz, candidates can request for an online examination conducted by CILTS, via email at secretariat@cilt.org.sg.

 

The online examination consists of 20 MCQs to be completed in an hour. Result will be known immediately. For a repeat attempt - the cost is SGD50.00 per attempt, with no restriction on the number of repeat attempts.
