Course Overview

Behavioural Insights (BI) is the application of behavioural sciences to manage, influence, and change people’s behaviours. It can be applied to improve outcomes across a wide variety of processes, such as customer experience, service delivery, policy design and implementation, work management, and product and service design. Professionals equipped with a good understanding of BI will be able to adopt a behavioural lens in solving problems within their organisation and to engage better with external stakeholders and their customers.

This 2-day course provides a basic introduction to the BI and how it can be applied to influence decisions and behaviours in various domains such as consumer, health, community engagement, online behaviours, etc. It aims to equip professionals with foundational knowledge in BI and understand its applications in various professional settings and industries.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for participants with little or no background in behavioural insights. It is catered for individuals who want to develop greater awareness on how to apply behavioural insights to improve policy design, work processes or service delivery in both public service and commercial organizations.

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Tan Wah Pheow

Dr Tan Wah Pheow is trained as a cognitive psychologist. He obtained his Bachelors in Social Sciences (Psychology) and Masters in Social Sciences (Psychology) from the National University of Singapore, and his Ph.D. in psychology with a minor in statistics from Iowa State University. His area of expertise includes judgment and decision-making, and human factors. Since 2009, Wah Pheow has lectured in Temasek Polytechnic, and has extensive experience in conducting applied behavioural and psychological science research in collaboration with the industry. Wah Pheow was instrumental in setting up the Centre for Applied Psychology and the Behavioural Insights Collaboratory in Temasek Polytechnic, and is also the lead researcher for the Behavioural Insights Collaboratory. Since 2016, Wah Pheow have directly supervised or served as a consultant to numerous BI projects that are conducted within Temasek Polytechnic, or in collaboration with external partners.

Gabrielle Lai

Dr Gabrielle Lai is trained as a cognitive developmental psychologist. She obtained her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, Masters in Developmental Psychology from San Francisco State University, and PhD in Education from National Institute of Education. Since 2011, she has lectured in Temasek Polytechnic with the Diploma in Psychology Studies, and helped set up the Centre for Applied Psychology in 2017. Gabrielle has extensive experience in conducting research in various areas of psychological, behavioural sciences and learning sciences, including the area of Behavioural Insights (BI) where she supervised and collaborated on several BI projects involving both internal and external industry partners. She is also an associate researcher of Temasek Polytechnic’s Behavioural Insights Collaboratory.
