Course Overview

AI tools are increasingly being used in teaching and learning—from generating lesson ideas and quizzes, creating differentiated materials, and supporting feedback, to helping learners brainstorm, revise writing, and study more effectively. When used appropriately, these tools can enhance teaching productivity and learning outcomes. However, careless use may introduce risks such as inaccurate or misleading content, bias, privacy concerns, over-reliance by learners, and challenges to academic integrity.

This hands-on 2-day course is designed for educators regardless their coding background. You will gain practical knowledge and experience to guide the responsible and ethical use of AI tools in the classroom—while ensuring practices are safe, fair, and aligned with institutional expectations.

The course is grounded in Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)’s AI governance principles, covering: transparency, explainability, repeatability/reproducibility, safety, security, robustness, fairness, data governance, accountability, human agency and oversight and societal and environmental well-being. The course breaks down these governance principles into relatable classroom scenarios.

You will learn how responsible AI differs from simply “using AI,” and how to embed responsible practices into lesson design, assessment, and learners guidance—so you can gain the benefits of AI without compromising trust, integrity, or learner well-being. Importantly, you will also learn how to teach learners AI awareness, helping them understand what AI can and cannot do, how to verify AI outputs, and how to recognise common AI risks such as hallucinations, bias, and manipulation. Through interactive exercises and demonstrations, you will learn how to identify suitable classroom uses of AI, set practical guardrails for both educators and learners, and redesign teaching and assessment practices to be both effective and responsible—without needing any coding skills.
