Course Overview

This course introduces participants to Climate Risks, Biodiversity Loss and their impact on business, the Comprehensive Risk Assessment Framework and Techniques (CRAFT), and Mitigation Hierarchy. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)’s risk assessment methodology, and policy measures will also be discussed to help participants better understand the local landscape as well.

Entry Requirements

Participants are advised to have some pre-existing knowledge of sustainability. We recommend that participants attend the Foundations of Sustainability - Opportunities and Risk course prior to attending this course.

Who Should Attend

Business owners, SME senior management, line managers and operators who are engaged in or are likely to be engaged in risk management activities in the course of their business.

What You'll Learn

Have a clear sense of how inter-connected Biodiversity and Climate Risks impact business across industry sectors
Understand the short and mid-term risks in relation to the impact on business
Know how to use the Comprehensive Risk Assessment Framework and Techniques
Have a working knowledge of the tools of the MAS’s risk assessment methodology
Understand the policy measures surrounding risk management
Be able to implement MAS’s policy measures and risk assessment methodology internally

Certification

Participants who meet at least 75% of the required course attendance and attempt the assessment will be awarded the Certificate of Performance.

Ms Helene Li

A seasoned management consultant and finance industry professional, Helene has held various senior management positions in Strategic Planning, Marketing and Branding throughout her career, which includes tenure at global consulting giants Boston Consulting Group and Willis Towers Watson.

Prior to founding the GoImpact platform developed to accelerate the adoption of Sustainable Finance, Helene was Managing Director and Head of Strategic Planning, Brand and Communications Asia Pacific for BNP Paribas Wealth Management, a role she has held for five years. She also held similar roles at J.P. Morgan Private Bank and Swiss wealth management firm Lombard Odier. In these capacities, she was instrumental in advancing the agenda of Sustainable Finance and Investments across a broad client base of family offices and asset owners.

Helene is a known Influencer and Key Opinion Leader in Fintech and Digital Transformation, recognized by Thomson Reuters Refinitiv as Top 5 in the Asia Pacific and globally a Top 2 Influencer in Sustainable Finance. She has received numerous accolades as Top 100 Women in Finance from FinTech Times and Top 50 Hall of Fame Global Fintech Leaders. GoImpact platform has already forged partnerships with key players like Temasek Foundation, UNDP, Financial Times and Bloomberg since its inception one year ago.

A sought-after speaker and moderator at Fintech and Sustainable Finance forums, Helene graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a First Class Honors degree in English and Economics.

A veteran banker having extensive experience in the financial markets in the APAC region, China and Canada, Clarence has accumulated broad banking and market knowledge which spanned loan syndication, structured finance, acquisition finance and corporate and private banking. Before his last assignment at BNP Paribas in wealth management, Clarence was based in Shanghai and served as the CEO of BNP Paribas (China) between 2010-2014. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he held various senior positions with Citibank and Chase Manhattan Bank. Since November 2018, Clarence decided to pursue his own interest. He is a Partner of GoImpact and is the Founder of Immortelle Health.

Mr Hsu-sheng Wong

Hsu-sheng has an extensive legal and finance background, having worked for over 16 years as a lawyer, investment banker and commercial banker. In his last banking role, he was appointed as Head Financial Institutions at the regional headquarters of a major Middle Eastern bank and was subsequently appointed as Acting General Manager to manage the operations during the COVID crisis. Prior to joining GoImpact, he was a partner and course facilitator in private equity and educational institute specializing in digitization, business transformation and sustainability.

A keen sustainability proponent, Hsu-sheng has been actively involved in developing ESG frameworks and operationalising them for practical application in the office and at home. He is a Senior Fellow (Sustainability) with the Singapore Institute of International Affairs and an Advisor (Sustainability) with TrueVA Capital. He has attended the Yale-SOM Sustainable Finance and Investment program and the SMU GoImpact Impact Investing and Mega Trends in Sustainability program and is a certified Green and Sustainable Finance Professional with the Chartered Banker Institute.

Hsu-sheng holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Cambridge and a post-graduate Diploma in Singapore Law from the National University of Singapore.

Mr Ewan McEwan

Ewan McEwan MBA is a global learning and development professional specialising in leadership, sustainability & climate risk. He is an Accredited Advisor with the Future-Fit Foundation, using and promoting their Future-Fit Business Benchmark Tool – a method to measure achievement of sustainability in absolute terms.

Starting with a career in sports development, management, and adjudication -including attending 2 Olympic Games and America’s Cup - Ewan completed the full-time, two-year MBA programme at the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.

Currently, he is a Senior Consultant, as an associate, with Korn Ferry - the organisational development company - and is a Lead Trainer Designate with GO!MPACT.

He specialises in integrating sustainability into business strategy, enabling companies to gain the benefits of embracing sustainability – increased revenue, reduced cost, and better risk management. Ewan holds a post-master’s diploma in corporate governance, qualifying him as a non-executive director for listed companies, and is a member of both the Global Association of Risk Professionals and the International Society for Sustainability Professionals.

Mr James Yin

James is the founding member of V-Plus Agritech Pte Ltd. A veteran of the Singapore Army for two decades, James pivoted from protecting his country to protecting our planet. He is no stranger to crisis, disasters and conflicts, having deployed for the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami relief, the Defeat ISIS Coalition in Iraq, and Singapore’s COVID-19 response. He saw climate change as a crisis that requires urgent action, and decided to step forward. James combines his deep expertise in strategy & communications with qualifications in integrating ESG, sustainable finance and ESG reporting standards to drive climate action. He is currently scaling circular agriculture and is on the lookout for new opportunities to deliver environmental and social impact.

James is an alumnus of GoImpact’s SMU Advanced Certificate in Sustainability and Sustainable Businesses and was previously a course developer and reviewer in the Singapore Armed Forces masters-level professional military education programme, as well as the Head of Plans & Training for the SAF Volunteer Corps. He has obtained a Certificate in Sustainable Finance from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership.
