Would you like to do your bit for the less privileged in third world countries, while getting a global perspective and picking up some practical skills at the same time?  In the School of Engineering, students have the opportunity to do just that.

Under the Overseas Internship Programme (OCP), Engineering students are given the chance to render community service in third world countries such as Cambodia, Laos or the Philippines.

In Sep 2017, about two dozen Engineering students did their bit for the less privileged in San Pablo, Cauayan City, in the Philippines.  They installed flower beds, planted shrubs, and also installed solar lighting to brighten up the lives of the villagers.

In Oct 2017, another group of 11 students embarked on an OCP trip to Cambodia, helping to install solar lighting in Trang village where there is no electricity, and teaching basic vocational English to underprivileged students in the Aoral and Trang education Centres there.

Besides carrying out their mission, the student volunteers also get the chance to interact with the locals by chatting, playing games and taking part in cultural performances, or to explore the city and roam the countryside, soaking in the rustic atmosphere of their once-in-a-lifetime experience.
