On 5 Nov, TP launched a unique park bench made from twigs and branches, i.e. horticultural waste. Collaborating with NParks, TP has installed two park benches at the Pavilion Near Carpark A of Bedok Reservoir Park. These park benches are made from cementitious materials incorporating wood and horticultural wastes collected from Bedok Reservoir Park.

Helmed by project leader Dr Wong Sook Fun, a researcher at the School of Applied Science, the project signifies TP’s commitment and pledge to recycle by using sustainably-sourced materials in support of the Year of Climate Action (2018). At the unveiling ceremony, TP also cemented our friendship with our industry friends - the NParks, ACI Singapore Chapter, and ACI Malaysia Chapter. The MOUs signed represent our collective commitment to making our city greener, more sustainable and more liveable, with innovation.

In Singapore alone, more than 400,000 tonnes of wood waste and more than 300,000 tonnes of horticultural waste were generated in 2017.  The recycling of wood and horticultural wastes can delay the release of greenhouse gas emissions (e.g. carbon dioxide CO2) that cause global warming, and lead to increased carbon storage within the trees.
