My Life. My Way. MOVE OVER, ROBOT

PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE STUDY TRIP TO ADELAIDE, BRISBANE & GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA

Will robots make the Pharmacist obsolete in future? How are robots used in the manufacture of medicines?

30 Pharmaceutical Science students had the opportunity to find out when they visited the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals and university campuses around Adelaide and Brisbane on a study trip in September 2017.

At the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, students observed how the integration of technology and automation in the dispensing process has enhanced efficiency without compromising the role of pharmacists in the industry.

The students also visited the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) by the University of Queensland (UQ), School of Pharmacy in Griffith University, Mylan Australia (AlphaPharm) and Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery (GRIDD). They learned about the rigorous training of a pharmacist, and witnessed the production and manufacture of drugs in a very controlled environment.

The students ended the trip with the confidence that they are much needed in an industry that still values the human touch in the care of patients.
