Project Smile Troopers are at it again!
Post Date: 09 Nov 2018
Once more, a group of 34 HSS students (now officially termed Troopers) flew to Siem Reap, Cambodia in September for an Overseas Community Project (OCP). Their aim? To create more smiles!
They returned to Kampong Kdei, their much-loved ‘base of operations’ for the last few years, for a 12D11N stay.
The Troopers brought with them clothes collected in Singapore (sacrificing their complimentary 30kg luggage quota) to Cambodia. The clothes were donated by HSS staff, students, friends and family. The students also collected monetary donations, which was used to purchase all the basic food necessities (rice, instant noodles, fish sauce, sugar, etc.) to be repacked into 800 bags. All 800 food bags and donated clothes were distributed to the locals in different villages. In September, being the wet season, flooding is common and the villagers are unable to grow or harvest rice for a living. Therefore, they experienced food shortages and these bags of food will bring some relief to them.
The Troopers also returned to Wat Kandall Primary School to conduct English and Physical Education lessons for the children there. They also refurbished one of the classrooms, laying new tiles on top of the existing uneven concrete floor and giving the walls a fresh coat of paint.
They even prepared a mass dance and presented it to the school during the closing ceremony. It was a joy to see the children following the moves and grooving to the music.
Once again, the Troopers succeeded in their mission to bring more smiles to the villagers in Cambodia.
