Module Overview

[Previously known as Supply Chain in a Connected World]

This module provides students an insight into the back-of-house logistics activities that make online businesses successful. As e-commerce gains further importance in the world of international trade, it will be necessary to know logistics fundamentals such as deciding between land, sea and air transportation modes, and calculating the relevant costs to design an operations plan for an online business.

To enhance their understanding, students will have the opportunity to visit the Singapore City Gallery or Maritime Gallery to appreciate Singapore’s investment in logistics infrastructure for international trade. Students will also visit Temasek Polytechnic’s Advanced Manufacturing Centre to understand the influence of manufacturing on the supply chain.

At the end of the module, students will appreciate the connectedness in a product supply chain and have a well-thought-out operations plan for an online business.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  1. Describe the scope of the supply chain for an e-commerce product.
  2. Explain the major activities in a supply chain and its importance as a catalyst for e-commerce.
  3. Appreciate Information Technology and smart logistics solutions that facilitate last-mile fulfilment of a product supply chain.

 

Assessment Components
Students will be assessed based on the following:

 

  1. Class Participation
  2. Quizzes
  3. Learning Journey Reflection
  4. Interactive Learning and Role-Playing Activities

 

Completion Criteria
Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
