Module Overview

Ever wanted to produce your own mobile app but do not know how? This module will help students understand the potential uses of mobile computing devices through activities that engage them in producing mobile app and games.  Students will learn to develop to simple mobile apps using tools while at the same time being exposed to IT concepts, such as the fundamentals of coding. 

 

Students will work in small groups to go through the process of producing a mobile application. They will be involved in the creation of the mobile media (e.g. text, graphics), the implementation of the application logic, the packaging, deployment and testing of the application on actual devices.

 

Students will be given the opportunity to find out more about career and education opportunities in the IT field.

 

This module will be conducted within a duration of 22.5 hours.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  1. Appreciate the potential impact of computing devices on society, and understand their strengths and constraints, as well as the challenges they present
  2. Make proficient use of various types of computing devices, such as smartphones, tablets, etc.
  3. Identify various types of mobile media and entertainment
  4. Make use of appropriate software tools to create mobile-specific applications and games

 

Assessment Components
Students will be assessed based on the following:

 

  1. Mini Project 1
  2. Mini Project 2

 

Completion Criteria
Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
