Module Overview

Psychology is not about reading minds! In this module, we will dispel this (unscientific) myth about psychology. Psychology is very much a discipline that relies on scientific methods to generate theories about human behaviour and thinking. You will engage in interactive activities aimed at conveying various psychological phenomena and learn tips that will enhance your everyday lives. For example, you will learn what psychological science has to say about how humans learn, and how we cope with stress and negative emotions. Not only that, you will have the opportunity to apply intervention strategies based on psychology theories and create materials used in the special needs education classrooms! Finally, we will bridge psychological theories to real-world applications in careers that rely a great deal on understanding why humans behave and think the way they do. You'll be in for one exciting ride!

 

This module will be conducted within a duration of 22.5 hours.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  1. Explain the role of learning and memory in cognitive psychology
  2. Describe the phrases of human development 
  3. Practise ways to improve motivations, emotions and stress
  4. Discuss the relevance of psychological concepts in everyday living
  5. Identify some of the traits and characteristics of common types of special needs
  6. Describe the various stakeholders in the social service sector in Singapore

Assessment Components
Students will be assessed based on the following:

  1. Kahoot Online Quizzes
  2. Individual Activity 
  3. Group Project Activity 
  4. Participation Points

 

Completion Criteria
Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
