Course Overview

This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to:

 

  • model manufacturing and service systems using software and simulation techniques.
  • improve and enhance systems’ operational performance by simulation and data analysis.

 

This subject provides an introduction to fundamental concepts of system modelling and simulation. Topics include basic model development, input analysis, modelling and statistical analysis. A simulation software is extensively used as a vehicle to enhance the understanding and practical applications of the subject.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

  1. Outline the need and justification of modelling and simulation.
  2. Outline an overview of system dynamics.
  3. Interpret the basic and essential types of simulation.
  4. Apply simple theoretical simulation based on random behaviour and discrete event.
  5. Analyse raw data to ascertain their suitability to use in a simulation model.
  6. Create a simulation model from a conceptual model of a system.
  7. Apply common and practical methods for examining the validity and correctness of a model before using it.
  8. Analyse simulation output statistically.

  • Continual Assessment 100 %

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Engineering (Operations & Systems Management).
