Course Overview

This 12-month course designed for polytechnic diploma holders involves taking up skills-based modules from a renowned Building Construction Authority Academy (BCAA) programme and from Temasek Polytechnic (TP) while working in the industry. It will equip you with the knowledge and skill-sets to be proficient in virtual designs and Building Information Modelling (BIM) functions in the different stages of a building’s life cycle. You will learn about BIM digital design, BIM asset management and BIM construction planning and management. You will also work on BIM projects with industry standard BIM collaboration platforms/tools, and learn about the various BCA standards including making the required BIM e-submissions to various statutory boards for construction or facility management projects.

 

Academic Progression

 

Participants have the option to continue with the pursuit of Bachelor Degree programmes offered by BCA Academy and SIT - Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (with up to 30 credit units of credit exemptions).

Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who are within three years of either graduation from the Polytechnic or BCAA or the Operationally Ready Date (ORD) for National Servicemen from the following full-time programmes are eligible to apply.

Only for Singapore Citizens who are fresh graduates hired by Participating Companies and officially commenced the Work-Study Diploma programme within 3 years of graduation or ORD.

Who Should Attend

Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who are fresh Polytechnic graduates from relevant built environment related discipline including BCAA diplomas.

What You'll Learn

Participants who have successfully completed and obtained a minimum pass grade for all the subjects in any of the post-diploma certificates will be awarded a Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) in the specific domain area. The Specialist Diploma in BIM Construction & Asset Management will be awarded jointly by TP and BCAA to participants who have successfully completed and obtained a pass grade for all the required subjects in both PDCs.

ECBD201 BIM Building Data & Collaboration

This hands-on practice based subject provides participants with the know-how and practical skills of modelling in digital design engineering using various BIM tools used in the industry. Topics covered also include the collaboration aspects of various stakeholders in the build environment disciplines: interior design, architecture, structures, mechanical, electrical and quantity surveyor. 

ECBD202 BIM Asset Management

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills to create BIM model from 3D scanning and manage BIM data in overall asset management of a facility. The processes of 3D Scanning to BIM Facility Management model will be taught through practical hands-on sessions.

ECBD203 BIM Project 1

This subject allows participants to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills taught in the subject modules to solve authentic problems they encounter in the workplace. Project measures students’ ability to create and design, showcase coordination or collaboration work among disciplines or implement solutions and ideas with respect to the requirements of the project statement. The project nature should be the following:

  • It must be a substantial work related to the company existing project/program in any of these relevant BE areas: interior design, architecture, structures, mechanical, electrical, quantity surveying, and facility management.
  • It may be an innovative BIM: modeling, system or process; or an improvement to the existing BIM model, work-flow or system.

It may include some form of BIM developmental work, evaluation of workable designs and implementation of project ideas.

ECBD204 BIM for Construction Planning

This practice-based subject provides participants with practical skills in planning construction process for BIM project. Topics covered include the project information preparation and site planning, BIM for precast and prefabrication construction project coordination, 4D/5D BIM for project scheduling and costing. 

ECBD205 BIM for Construction Management

This subject provides participants with the know-how and practical skills in managing design processes for BIM implementation in building construction related project. The subject covers documentation, e-submission, design visualization and spatial coordination as well as multi-disciplinary model integration, strategies and coordination work.

ECBD206 BIM Project 2

This subject extends the participants’ ability to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills taught in the subject modules to solve authentic problems they encounter in the workplace. Project measures students’ ability to plan and manage coordination works among disciplines or implement solutions and ideas with respect to the requirements of the project statement. The project nature should be the following:

  • It must be a substantial work related to the company existing construction/ sustainability/energy project or program.
  • It may be an innovative BIM construction system and processes or an improvement to the existing BIM plan, work-flow or system.

It may be an expansion of BIM Project 1 with added depth to the constructability assessment, evaluation of construction designs and implementation of project ideas on site.

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment will be based on a combination of coursework components such as practical tests, case studies, presentations, assignments and projects.

Career Opportunities

At the entry level, the job positions are BIM- Associates/ Modeler/ Project Engineer/ Engineer/ Coordinator1. Upon completing the course under the Work-Study Post-Diploma programme, a trainee can move on as a BIM- Senior Associate. They can also look forward to upgrading their knowledge and skills through further CET and executive programmes offered by local Institutes of Higher Learning.

Only applicants who are hired successfully and placed on this programme by the participating companies will be invited to submit an online application for the Work-Study Post-Diploma Courses.
