Course Overview

The Singapore economy and business environment are rapidly transforming with increasing digitalisation and the adoption of technology at the workplace. This has fuelled the appetite of companies for more data for decision-making and also led to investments in training to ensure that staff in the workforce have data analytics skills. Given the growing use of data analytics in various industry fields, the Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Business Analytics) will help companies to bolster and meet their need for professionals with good data analytics skills, and it will also equip participants with skills to understand business needs, prepare and analyse data, apply data analytics techniques to mine structured and unstructured data, create data visualisation to identify underlying trends and patterns in data.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Work-Study Programmes

Work-Study Post-Diplomas

Graduates from the list of feeder Polytechnic Diplomas, ITE Technical Diplomas / Work-Study Diplomas in relevant discipline or equivalent

 

Work-Study Programme Incentives Eligibility

Work-Study Programmes sign-on incentives are extended to eligible Singaporeans who are:

  • within three years of graduation from the Polytechnics/ITE or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for full-time National Servicemen

This eligibility is subject to prevailing criteria.

What You'll Learn

Participants will be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Business Analytics upon successful completion of the following:

 

  • Post-Diploma Certificate in Business Intelligence
  • Post-Diploma Certificate in Data Analytics

CBA1C07 Business Intelligence Fundamentals

This subject introduces students to a basic understanding of statistics and the application of business data analysis tools and techniques to visualise, analyse and interpret the results from these data. Students will learn essential descriptive data measures and data visualisation for describing data using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

CBA1C08 Business Intelligence Project

This subject introduces students to the concepts and techniques of turning raw data from various sources into information to help organisations better manage their performance. Students will learn to integrate data, use relevant techniques to analyse data, and apply principles of data visualisation to increase the business intelligence quotient of an organisation. Students will learn how to present the analysis using data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

CBA1C09 Data Analytics for Business Insights

In this subject, students will learn data analytics techniques and gain hands-on experience in using appropriate data analytics tools and software. It provides opportunities for students to integrate and apply the data mining knowledge and skills acquired to make data-driven decisions in specific business domains such as Customer Analytics and Marketing Analytics.

CBA1C10 Social Media Analytics

This subject introduces students to the use of unstructured social media text from various business domains to develop actionable insights for better business decision-making. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in text analytics to perform appropriate information retrieval to spot trends and sentiments expressed in unstructured text and social media platforms.

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment would be based on a combination of coursework components such as written and practical tests, case studies, assignments and projects.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can expect good employment prospects across many industries such as government, financial and banking institutions, and consulting firms. They can apply the knowledge and skills either in a specialised department in an organisation, or within a functional group in the following types of positions:

 

  • Data analyst
  • Associate data engineer
  • Business analyst
  • Business intelligence analyst

 

Graduates can also look forward to upgrading their knowledge and skills by taking up an additional Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) in Fintech Services with Temasek Polytechnic.

 

Upon completion of this PDC, graduates will be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Financial Analytics.

Selection of applicants is at the discretion of the participating companies and participating companies will contact their shortlisted applicants for interview. Applicants have the right to reject the interview if they do not wish to be employed by the company who contacted them.

 

Only applicants who are successfully hired and placed on the Work-Study programme by the participating companies will be invited to submit an online application for the courses.

Course fees payable is based on per Post-Diploma Certificate.

Course fees will be reviewed by MOE on an annual basis and adjusted accordingly.
