Course Overview

This program provides participants with introductory-level Japanese language skills such as pronunciation, greetings, self-introduction, expressing numbers, countries and nationalities.

The term Tomodachi means friend. So the title of this e-learning course means speak Japanese with Friend. This course provides learners with basic Japanese language skills to converse with a friend in casual form (also known as the plain form), using the situational approach. Introductory conversational Japanese language will be taught realistically, and all the words and sentences will be highlighted from various possible social situations in the form of dialogues. Learners will also discover interesting facts and history about the Japanese culture, such as school life, food, cities etc.

Who Should Attend

Anyone keen to learn basic phrases in the Japanese language to converse with a friend.

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Ms Sanae Shigeta

Sanae Shigeta has a Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Upon obtaining her B.A., she worked as a language teacher in a foreign language institution in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She then joined Temasek Polytechnic as a lecturer in 2001. Being an experienced Japanese language teacher for over 15 years, foreign language pedagogy is her main area of specialisation. Sanae also holds certificates in Ikebana Ikenobo (Japanese flower arrangement) and Chado Urasenke (Japanese tea ceremony). She has a keen interest in cultural diversity and has taught subjects on culture, and had organised study trips to Japan for students to better understand Japanese culture. Sanae also enjoys photography, travelling to world heritage sites, film criticism and art appreciation.
