In this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to support the rising demand for business digitalisation and commerce. Gain knowledge in fundamental design principles, emerging trends, and graphic design techniques in the digital world. Learn to harness the power of social media channels by creating unique digital experiences for consumers through content strategies across multiple channels and touchpoints. You will also acquire insights into UX/UI for user-centred solutions for a digital product or service and develop new digital solutions.

 

The versatile skillsets will provide job opportunities for you to work in both design and non-design sectors. This includes retail, food, insurance, health, financial services, media or any business that requires digital or online services. You can look forward to taking up roles such as digital product designer, UI/UX designer, e-commerce specialist, digital designer, social media content creator or graphic/web designer.

Entry Requirements

 

‘O’ Levels

3 relevant ‘O’ Level passes

and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec

GPA ≥ 2.0 OR

GPA ≥ 1.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Nitec

GPA ≥ 3.5 OR

GPA ≥ 3.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 2.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR
Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 3.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR
WSQ Qualification Relevant WSQ Qualification with 1 year of relevant working experience and WSQ Workplace Literacy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6) AND Workplace Numeracy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6)

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 2 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Who Should Attend

This program is suitable for working professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, or individuals seeking strategic change in using design to drive digital transformation. The course will deepen their skills in the areas of UX/UI design, innovation, social media and digital experiences to capture opportunities in e-commerce.

What You'll Learn

Upon graduating from the course, graduates should be able to:

  • gain the knowledge of fundamental design principles, new trends and techniques of graphic design in the digital world of commerce;
  • propose a user-centred solution for a digital product or service;
  • design digital interface or presentation with appropriate styles and graphic treatment;
  • create an engaging digital experience for the consumers through content strategies across multiple channels and touchpoints; and
  • innovate new digital products, service or solutions that shape consumers’ future experiences in digital commerce.

 

To be awarded the Diploma in Design (Digital Commerce & Experience) participants are required to complete a total of 5 modular certificates (MCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each MC.

This subject covers design thinking process from user-centred research to ideation, concept explorations and testing. Students will learn to apply design thinking to develop innovative and effective human-centred design solutions.

DCE035K Digital Essentials

This subject covers the fundamental digital tools and skills necessary to carry out almost all forms of design solutions digitally. Students will learn how to manipulate photos, illustrate vector graphics, and design a digital layout.

DCE036K Visual Presentation

This subject covers the fundamental digital tools and skills necessary to carry out almost all forms of design solutions digitally. Students will learn how to manipulate photos, illustrate vector graphics, and design a digital layout.

This subject covers the principles of user-centred design and designing user interfaces. Students will develop an effective digital solution through user research, wireframing and prototyping.

DCE038K Motion Design Lab

This subject emphasises the relationship between design principles, animation and motion graphics fundamentals. Students will experiment with motion graphics while exploring the potential of time-based media.

DCE039K Digital Visualisation Lab

The subject covers different techniques in image creation. Students will create an original and spontaneous composition through an exploratory approach. In addition, they will also explore user interaction with the digital creation.

This subject covers researching on current consumer trends to develop different content types and elements of story to produce a campaign. This will provide insights to the latest trends and innovations in the advertising industry.

DCE041K Design for Business Impact

This subject provides the fundamental awareness of a business model and how design management may be incorporated in the work environment. Students will develop product and process innovation ideas for businesses such as inverting the traditional business model to align with the business needs.

DCE042K Brand Communication & Experience

This subject covers the knowledge of branding as a critical strategy for businesses in today's context. It will examine brands that incorporate design methods to express the brand’s identity and to engage consumers through various touchpoints such as products, services, and environments.

DCE043K Data Analytics & Visualisation

This subject introduces the fundamental knowledge and tools in data analytics, principles of infographics and data visualisation in context of design research. Student will learn how to translate the data and effectively present the information in visual format.

DCE044K Content Strategy for Social Media

This subject introduces analytical and rational implementation of strategies, as well as best practices for marketing to engage consumers. It covers the various approaches towards content development for different social media platforms.

DCE045K Integrated Campaign

This subject covers advertising insights, understanding of different media channels such as social media, outdoor print as well as addressing communication strategies including the effective use of metaphors, iconography, idioms, allegories, clichés and methodologies.

This subject covers the iterative design process to solve design problems related to digital products. Students will experience the project from end-to-end by crafting user personas, developing customer journey mapping to prototyping a multi-device solution.

DCE047K Front-end Development

This subject covers the overview of front-end web development and the web digital ecosystem. Students will learn to build their own interactive and responsive websites by writing their own lines of code.

DCE048K Innovation in Digital Experiences

This subject focuses on the emergence of new technology in digital experiences that can engage consumers in a more interactive way. Students will gain experience in designing and developing ideas for the future by exploring emerging technologies.

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment would be based on a combination of coursework components such as consultations, assignments, projects and presentations.
