Course Overview

With the push for digitalization and Industry 4.0 in Singapore, the demand for robotics and automation skills has never been more urgent. One such effort by the Government is the National Robotics Programme which seeks to develop in-depth national capabilities for robotics development and deployment across multiple sectors – including healthcare, construction, manufacturing and logistics.

 

The Specialist Diploma in Robotics and Automation is a 12-month programme for working adults designed to deepen and equip you with the relevant skills to meet the industry demands for trained specialists in robotics and automation. The curriculum is robust and industry-relevant. You will learn subjects such as Robotics Systems Control and Troubleshooting, Robotics Integration and Adaptation, Automation Control and Interfacing and Manufacturing Equipment and Troubleshooting.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

 

A Polytechnic Diploma or ITE Technical Diploma / Technical Engineer Diploma / Work-Learn Technical Diploma in Science, Technical, Engineering, Math (STEM) or equivalent

 

OR A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

 

OR A Post-Secondary Certificate with at least 3 Years of relevant working experience

Who Should Attend

 

This course is targeted at those who are working as Associate Engineer, Automation Engineer, Equipment Engineer and Robotics Engineer in the areas of installation, commissioning, and maintenance and troubleshooting of automation equipment and robotics equipment and application.

What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma, participants are required to complete a total of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each PDC.

ECCT201 Robotics Systems, Control and Troubleshooting

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills of robot internal structure, controller, as well as troubleshooting the various modules, parts and circuits of industrial robot. Topics covered includes robot safety requirements, classification of different industrial robots, workspace and integration, troubleshooting of robot parts & circuits which includes controller system, motion controller, motors, encoders, sensors and the related actuators, programming of robot controller system and communication/fieldbus, implementation of kinematics, motion planning, trajectory generation, plan and developing routes for mobile robot. It also includes robot performance monitoring, maintenance, repair and calibration.

ECCT202 Robotics Integration and Adaptation

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills in planning and integrating robotics automation system for robot assisted production, and adapting robot to various industrial process control automation applications. Topics covered includes robotics automation system safety requirement, operation of automated robots & systems which includes connectivity with system interfaces, calibration of robot arms, mechanical alignment, design of end effectors for adaptation, mechanical integration of robot with automation system, design and plan logic controller, robot programming, PLC Logic design, configure human machine interface and industrial networks/fieldbus, integration of machine vision, apply kinematic, optimized robot movement and routes, apply computer control and interface, data & information management, Internet of Things (IoT) and data analysis in robotics automation, remote robot control and monitoring, and installation and commission of robotics automation system.

ECMF208 Automation Control and Interfacing

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills for automation control and system interfaces. Topics covered include automation equipment safety, risk assessment, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and software control structure, integration of sensors and actuators, mode of operations, and error handling. It also covered the configuration of Human Machine Interface (HMI), industrial networks and fieldbus, and installation and commissioning of automated equipment.

ECMF205 Manufacturing Equipment and Troubleshooting

This practice-based subject provides participants with the know-how and practical skills in automation technology and equipment troubleshooting for the manufacturing industry. Topics covered include the assembly and commissioning of automation systems and commonly-used equipment modules such as, AC-DC power distribution, pneumatic circuits, and safety systems. The analysis of equipment schematics and the troubleshooting of equipment modules will be taught through practical laboratory sessions.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Specialist Diploma in Robotics and Automation should be able to integrate robotics automation systems for robot assisted production as well as troubleshooting the various modules, parts and circuits of industrial robot.
