Why do students need a notebook?

With BYOD, students will be able to access software used by TP anytime, anywhere, with a portable device such as the notebook. With this mobility of working and accessing information, TP is preparing students for the industry, as they will be immersed in a digital environment during their course of study with enhanced learning experience. The necessary supporting facilities such as wireless network connectivity and power sockets will be provided to maximise the capabilities of their devices.

All students are required to bring their own personal notebook to school. They will be able to:

  • access e-resources such as e-text books, videos, and educational apps;
  • conduct online research and work on their assignments using their own notebook;
  • use their own notebook in school and at home, thus enjoying convenience and accessibility to course-specific software whenever feasible; and
  • contribute towards a greener environment.

Where should students purchase the notebook?

Where should students purchase the notebook?

Students may purchase the notebook from our appointed vendors or from any external public notebook roadshows. Please refer to here for more information on the offers from our notebook suppliers.

What is the minimum specifications of the notebook?

The notebook should meet the minimum notebook specification required for the diploma in study. Please refer to the “What to Buy” section at here for more information.

Can student use his/her existing or sibling’s notebook?

An existing notebook can be used if it meets the minimum notebook specifications required for the diploma in study. Please refer to here for more information.

Are there any advantages of getting a notebook from the appointed vendors?

  • 3 years on-site warranty
  • Good pricing for the performance and warranty provided

Is there any financial aid scheme for notebook purchase?

Is there any financial aid scheme for notebook purchase?

Students who need to purchase a new notebook but face financial constraints may apply for the BYOD assistance scheme. Please visit here for more details to see if you are eligible and the type of notebooks available. Alternatively, students can also call our hotline at 6780 5959.

Where can students get support for any problem with their notebooks?

Where can students get support for any problem with their notebooks?

Students who are having technical issues with their notebooks, should contact TP’s IT Service Management (ITSM) Centre at 6780 5933. The ITSM Centre is located at East Wing Building, Block 1A, Level 4, Unit 02.
The Operating Hours of the ITSM Centre are:

  • Mondays to Fridays: 8.00am to 9.30pm
    (except for September vacation period where closing time will be at 6.30pm)

  • Saturdays: 8.00am to 1.00pm.

How to login to Learning Management System (LMS)?

How to login to Learning Management System (LMS)?
  1. Click on the LOGIN button of the LMS landing page (https://lms.tp.edu.sg/)
  2. Enter your student email ID (e.g. 1234567A@student.tp.edu.sg)
  3. Enter your password (i.e.  t + [barcode no.] of student admin no.)

Note:
If you encounter ‘Sign On Error’ message while trying to login to your LMS account, please clear your browser cache and restart the browser. You should also logout from your Office365 session (https://login.microsoftonline.com/) before accessing LMS.

Cannot login to student WiFi?

  1. Select SSID ‘TP-STUDENT-2.4’ instead of ‘TP-STUDENT’ 
  2. When prompted to setup password,
    • select PEAP for EAP method
    • (Unspecified) for CA certificate
    • Click Connect

Note:
Please remove existing TP-STUDENT SSID by forgetting TP-STUDENT SSID on your device (mobile phone or notebook) and then choose ‘TP-STUDENT-2.4’

No. Only students from the selected diploma courses can apply under Notebook Grant.

  • You can only select the model that is for your diploma course.

It will be in cash or NETS. Deployment will either be on TP Campus or at the vendor’s office.

You will get the deployment details via your TP Student email.

Can I apply for NEU PC Plus even if I am eligible for Notebook Grant?

Can I apply for NEU PC Plus even if I am eligible for Notebook Grant?

You are recommended to apply for Notebook Grant instead, as the notebook models offered in NEU PC Plus may not be able fulfil your course’s minimum technical specifications.

  • You may like to consider applying for Opportunity Fund if you are eligible.
  • Alternatively, students can apply for the Inspire Fund under NEU PC Plus if they are selecting Desktop 1 or Laptop 2. Inspire Fund is not applicable for other models.

What is inspire fund (NEU PC Plus)?

What is inspire fund (NEU PC Plus)?
  • This is for needy students who are not able to afford the co-payment. You can only apply for the inspire fund if you are choosing Desktop 1 or Laptop 2. You will only be able to obtain your desktop/laptop after you have complete your community service hours within 6 months.
  • Successful applicants will receive a log book from IMDA. Applicants can only start the community service upon receiving the log book. Applicants are expected to source your own community service opportunities.
  • The number of hours to complete are detailed as follows:

      Desktop No. 1 (1-ADM) Laptop No. 2 (2-JLM)
    15 years to 25 years old 6 hours 12 hours

You may consider purchasing a notebook from any of the notebook merchants. Do ensure that the laptop model purchased meet the minimum technical specifications for your diploma course.

NEU PC Plus PC Bundle: You will be notified through mail from one of the Leading Agencies via your home address.

Yes. You may apply for the NEU PC Plus PC Bundle. After you have obtained your notebook, you apply for the Opportunity Fund and attached the receipt for your co-payments in your application. If you are eligible, you will be reimbursed 50% of your co-payment.

Opportunity Fund can be applied once in your entire studies in TP. You are eligible to apply if your PCI ≤ 1000 OR GHI ≤ 3400.
