A Collaboration for a Greater Cause - DBS PayLah!

The bi-annual Campus Care Network (CCN) Day Carnival saw, for the first time, the implementation of the DBS PayLah! application.

The polytechnic and The Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) joined hands for a collaboration that not only helped raise awareness of the mobile application, but also raised funds for the students in need of financial assistance. For every download of the ‘DBS PayLah!’ application, the bank donated $1 to the cause. Students and staff were also able to pay for their purchases using the app.

Many students agreed that this partnership enhanced the meaning behind CCN Day, and that “it is a very generous offer from DBS”, said Peck Zheng Hao. The first year Chemical Engineering student added that most TP students were aware of the event’s cause, and that it was a meaningful way to raise funds for the financially-challenged students.

Megain Ooi from Aviation Management & Services was impressed by the turnout of the crowd. She said: “It’s quite good, considering that a lot of people are still around and participating even though it’s after-school hours.”

Some stall owners said that many of their customers had downloaded and used the DBS PayLah! application mainly due to the $5 referral code that came with each registration. However, there was still quite a large number of them whose preferred method of payment was cash.

“It is more convenient but not all the students will use it due to the fact that they have more cash on hand rather than in their bank accounts.”, said P Sakilal, a Year 1 Aviation Management & Services student. He also added that it was a “good implementation, but I just don’t think it will reach all the students.”

Yazimah Nehar, a Year 1 Biomedical Science student tending to her stall said: “The response is not so great because people are kind of lazy to download the application and most people prefer paying by cash. Most of my customers actually paid by cash.”

Past CCN Days have always been effective and successful in conveying its message across, as well as hitting its financial targets. However, what really set this particular CCN Day apart from the rest was the kind initiative by DBS Bank. There are definitely certain areas of improvement, but for a first collaborative effort, it was a movement worth commemorating.
