Singapore National Employers Federation and Temasek Polytechnic Sign MOU on Structured Human Resource Student Internship
  1. The Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to co-developed a structured human resource (HR) student internship programme “Structured Human Resource Accelerator Programme (SHAPE)”. Over the next five years, SHAPE aims to provide participating students with a comprehensive understanding of the HR industry, develop relevant competencies and apply HR tools and practices in the Singapore context.

  2. The MOU was signed by the Executive Director of SNEF, Mr Sim Gim Guan, and the Principal & Chief Executive Officer of TP, Mr Peter Lam, at a physical signing ceremony held at the Gardens by the Bay. The signing ceremony was also witnessed by close to 40 representatives from SNEF member companies and HR professionals.

  3. Under the MOU, up to 25 TP students from the Diploma in Business (HR electives) will be selected for SHAPE each year for industrial attachments at SNEF and selected SNEF member companies. After their internships, students will get to embark on the Innovation Project Synthesis (IPS) and apply what they learnt to a real-life HR application project work or problem statement defined by the participating company. SNEF will also collaborate with government agencies and role model companies to hold industry-related talks, site visits and roundtables for students to gain insights on topics like workplace fairness, HR Job Redesign and tripartism. Students will also be supported to acquire the necessary proficiencies through the Institute for Human Resource Professionals Certified Associate (IHRP-CA) Programmme. For more information on the SHAPE Framework, please refer to Annex A.

  4. Commenting on the MOU signing, Mr Sim Gim Guan said, “This unique collaboration is mutually beneficial for both SNEF’s member companies and students with aspiring HR careers. It is not just an internship that students can embark on to familiarise themselves with HR practices. What is even more valuable is that these students can bring their fresh perspective and insights as future HR professionals, when they work on solving a problem statement scoped by employers. The SHAPE framework is a step towards strengthening HR capabilities and enhancing HR support for our member companies, which are crucial to develop a future-ready workforce.”

  5. “We are happy to partner with SNEF on such transformative programmes, which will help shape the learning and development of our students as future HR practitioners in the workforce,” said Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO of Temasek Polytechnic. “This collaboration highlights the symbiotic relationship between TP and our industry partners in providing real-world learning experiences for our students, as well as building a talent pipeline for the HR industry. Through SHAPE, we hope to provide our students with access to a comprehensive learning experience and valuable insights into the landscape of HR practices in Singapore, thus preparing them for a more seamless transition into the workforce."

  6. Mr Paul Quek, HR Business Partner, APAC of SNEF member company ENGIE Impact Pte Ltd, said, “I believe SHAPE will not only create valuable learning experiences for interns, but also provide a platform for our organisation to contribute to the development of talented individuals. It aligns perfectly with our commitment to foster a culture of learning and growth and provides an excellent opportunity for our company to forge lasting partnerships while nurturing the workforce of tomorrow."
