Upskilling for a Better Future!

2105 Working Adults Graduate from 43 Part-time Courses @ TP  

13 Diplomas, 23 Specialist Diplomas and 7 SGUnited Skills Programmes

 
  • Wanting to help her 83-year old mother who is a stroke patient and other seniors, 56 year-old Serene Yeow was spurred to take life-long learning to a new level by pursuing three Specialist Diplomas.
  • Microbiologist by training, Tan Kok Seng takes up Data Science and excels in it enough to be commended and promoted at work.
  • Battling the stress of COVID restrictions, new ways of learning, caring for her elderly parents and setting up her own home business, Nur Dalilah overcomes adversity and graduates.

 

 

Passionate about the ageing sector, lifelong learner, 56 year-old Serene Yeow Chin Yee will embark on her third Specialist Diploma next month. In 2020, she enrolled in the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Optimal Ageing Practice) because of her interest in wanting to understand the challenges faced by seniors. She decided to continue her learning journey to gain knowledge and understanding of geriatric nutrition when the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Nutrition for Ageing Well) began in April 2021. This year, Serene will begin the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Community Care Assistance), a new course offered in TP. A Centre Principal at PCF Sparkletots Preschool, Serene has successfully applied the knowledge and skills she has learnt, with her mother who is an 83-year-old stroke patient. As a volunteer with the Siglap Community Centre’s Senior Citizens’ Executive Committee, Serene also hopes to use her knowledge to help other seniors age gracefully.

Tan Kok Seng is 43 years old, and a father of two children, aged 13 and 11. A microbiologist by training, Kok Seng had no background in Data Science but knew that it was a field of study that was in demand in today’s data-driven world. So he took up TP’s Specialist Diploma in Data Science for Business. His newly acquired competency was put to good use when he was challenged by his management team to review data and come up with new insights. He wrangled with big data, using all that he had learned, from cleaning and transforming data, predicting outcomes, to gathering meaningful insights. Taking this course has propelled Kok Seng’s career to a whole new level. The former Section Head at ITE College East has just been made Course Manager for the Chemical Process Technology NITEC course. Kok Seng now hopes to do a Masters in Data Science one day! 

 

 

 

 

 

At 37, Nur Dalilah Abdullah wanted to start her own home business. To up her skills in web design and UI/UX, she decided to take up the Specialist Diploma in Integrated Digital Communication at TP. When Covid struck, things became very challenging for Dalilah as she had to juggle her work in the day, study during the night, and at the same time, care for her elderly parents. As the learning went online, and the waves of infection rose and abated, Dalilah had to adjust and cope. Through it all, she never gave up and in fact found opportunities to actively apply what she has learned to her work, successfully revamping her department’s web portal.

The graduation ceremonies for TP’s 43 part-time courses will be held over five sessions on Wednesday, 11 May and Thursday, 12 May 2022 at Temasek Polytechnic’s Convention Centre.
