Course Overview

This subject covers the various gaseous and particulate pollutants and air pollution treatment methods. It discusses how air pollution arises and its impact on the environment. The characteristics of air pollutants which affect human health and the various treatment technologies are also covered. 

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to:

  • Perform air pollution control in industries where air pollution control is required.
  • Manage air pollutant control systems to comply with industrial air emission regulations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

  • Assignments – assess students’ understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, and their ability to solve the application questions.

  • Tests / Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.

  • Class Participation – measures students’ attitudes and discipline towards learning in terms of completion of assignments and active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology).
