Course Overview

This subject covers the fundamental concepts of quality and quality improvement. It provides a broad overview of quality improvement as well as the application of statistical process control in the chemical industry. The importance of customer focus, employee involvement and continuous improvement will be emphasized.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to:

  • Describe the concept of quality and the general practices of quality improvement         
  • Apply the methodologies/techniques for quality improvement. explain the ISO quality management system.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

●      Assignments – assess students’ understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, and their ability to solve the application questions.

●      Tests / Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.

●      Class Participation – measure students’ attitudes and discipline towards learning in terms of completion of assignments and active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result, which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology).
