Course Overview

This subject covers the fundamental theory of fire safety management, fire safety act, responsibilities of a Fire Safety Manager (FSM), and introduces the various types of fire protection equipment and systems in a building.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims at enabling students to:

  1. Identify the relevant provisions of the Fire Safety Act and Regulations, which they then apply in preparing the Annual Report on building fire safety.

  2. Explain the basic theory of fire growth and development, which they will apply in the selection of fire extinguishers for different applications.

  3. Describe the provisions relating to structural fire precautions and means of escape, as well as emergency voice communication systems, which will be applied in the preparation of a Fire Emergency Plan for a commercial mixed-use building.

  4. Explain the requirements for the inspection, testing and maintenance of typical passive and active fire protection systems used in commercial buildings and industrial premises.

  5. Outline the essentials of basic first aid.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.
